Issue #2: 3 Strategies for Getting Brand Deals
Pros and cons of inbound, outbound, and ugc platforms
Expanding Horizons Together 🌅
Today's Issue
Hi there!
At Movig, we’ve been discussing the importance of diversifying your strategies to get more brand deals. Whether you focus on only 1 or combine a few, there are pros and cons to each. The best way to fill your calendar is to test different strategies and discover what works best for you - that you can also maintain to avoid burnout!
So, let’s look at the what and how behind the 3 main strategies…
3 Strategies for Scaling UGC Deals 🚀
Read time: ~2 minutes
Strategy #1: Inbound
Follow and engage with brands you love. Get on their email lists, learn about their products/offers, show up in their comments, and reply to their stories.
Make sure your email and portfolio are visible. Make it as easy as possible for brands to get to know your content and contact you. Put your email address and portfolio across all your socials, and make sure your email (or a contact form) are easily found on your portfolio.
Use targeted hashtags to be found by brands in your niche. Check out what #’s your ideal brands and other creators in your niche(s) follow.
Commit to being an active creator and staying consistent. Use time-blocking to ensure you’re regularly creating and engaging.
Showcase high-quality content and break it down. Brands want to see that you know what you’re talking about. Try stitching your own work and explaining the strategy behind your methods.
Pros and Cons: Building an audience gives you a platform that’s yours that you can control. Seeing the impact you’re capable of can make you an attractive candidate for brands. However, it can take a lot of time and energy, and you’ll have to consider which niche(s) you showcase depending on if you want to specialize or not. It can also be unpredictable as you have to wait and hope brands engage with you.
Strategy #2: UGC platforms
Sign up to EVERY platform you find! Overwhelming and tedious at first, but worth it in the long run. Also, a lot of the info can be copy/pasted from one platform to the rest; we suggest saving it all in a master doc for easy access.
Optimize your portfolio with a variety of content styles. Must-have portfolio pieces include voiceovers, unboxing, product showcases, and problem/solution samples. This is your chance to show your creativity and give brands a tasting sample of what you’re capable of!
Ensure you have a professional portfolio to showcase!
Update your video samples regularly as you progress, evolve, and work with different brands. You want to put your best foot forward!
Pros & Cons: Platforms are a great place to start and gain experience. Also, the brands there are actively seeking to work with creators. That being said, you’re not the only creator they will have their eyes on, which stresses the importance of creating a killer stand-out portfolio! Also, you’re limited to only those brands, it’s harder to build personal relationships, and often they are 1 time deals vs. longer term retainer clients.
Strategy #3: Outbound
Check out #ad and #sponsored content on IG and TT. Often, these brands are open to working with additional creators.
Create and STICK TO a follow-up process - we suggest you follow up 3-5 times with each brand you pitch. For best results, make it a non-negotiable part of your routine (this is where time-blocking can help!)
Replace manual work with automation wherever possible. Hunting down the correct email address for the correct person at a brand can take aaaaages, and sometimes it isn’t even publicly available. Work smart, not hard, and use a tool to hunt down all those emails for you.
Pros & Cons: Closing an outbound lead can often mean that you have cherry-picked the brands you want to work with. But it can be very time-intensive if you don’t have the right systems in place! (BTW, this is exactly what Movig can take off your hands!)
Now, we’re not saying you have to do absolutely everything above consistently. But, it is worth trying various tactics to see what yields the best results. What works for someone else may not work exactly the same for you. Find what works for you, then rinse and repeat!
